Bleeding, swollen or receding gums? Gentle, thorough periodontal treatment to control inflammation, stabilise your gums and help protect your teeth for the long term.
Every course of treatment starts with a detailed gum health assessment. Your plan is guided by:
✔ Pocket measurements around each tooth
✔ X-rays to check the bone that supports your teeth
✔ Your risk factors, such as smoking or diabetes
✔ Your home care routine and what will help most
Treatment is carried out by our dentists and hygiene team, with consultant-led care available for more advanced cases. We'll explain what we find, how many visits you're likely to need and how to keep your gums healthy afterwards.
More advanced gum disease is treated by Dr Vitor Neves, a specialist periodontist with an MSc and PhD and over a decade of experience across hospital, research and private practice. Qualified in both Brazil and the UK, he combines evidence-based science with modern, minimally invasive techniques to help patients restore and keep healthy gums.

If your assessment shows deeper pockets or bone loss, our consultant-led treatment means your care is planned and carried out by Dr Vitor. GDC number 276185.
Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is inflammation of the gums and the bone that supports your teeth, caused by bacteria in plaque. In its early stage, gingivitis, it can often be reversed. If it progresses to periodontitis, it can lead to receding gums, loose teeth and eventually tooth loss.
It often causes no pain until it's advanced, which is why regular assessment matters. At Harley Private, our approach focuses on early detection, gentle treatment and long-term stability.
Reflections from people who have visited our clinic and shared their experience.
Gum disease is common and treatable. Periodontal treatment cleans below the gum line to remove the bacteria and tartar that cause inflammation, giving your gums the chance to heal and helping prevent further damage.
Signs to look out for
Bleeding gums when you brush or clean between your teeth, or gums that look red and swollen.
Receding gums that make your teeth look longer, or teeth that feel loose or have moved.
Bad breath or a bad taste that doesn't go away, even with good brushing.
If you notice any of these, don't stop brushing. Cleaning is part of the solution, and an assessment will show exactly what your gums need.
Best suited for: anyone diagnosed with gum disease, patients with bleeding or receding gums, and anyone planning implants, crowns or bridges who needs healthy gums first.
Non-surgical deep cleaning below the gum line to reduce inflammation and stabilise your gum health.

It's usually well tolerated. Local anaesthetic can be used where appropriate, and any mild tenderness afterwards typically settles within a few days.
It depends on how advanced your gum disease is. Some patients need more than one visit, followed by regular maintenance appointments. We'll explain your plan after your assessment.
Early gum disease can often be reversed. More advanced disease can't always be reversed, because lost bone doesn't usually grow back, but it can be managed and stabilised with treatment and ongoing care.
A scale and polish removes plaque, tartar and stains for healthy gums or mild inflammation. Periodontal treatment goes further, cleaning below the gum line when gum disease has developed.
Your gums may feel tender and your teeth sensitive for a few days. As swelling goes down your gums can tighten, which is a sign they're healing. We'll give you clear aftercare advice.
