A thorough, unhurried first appointment with a private dentist. A full assessment of your teeth, gums and mouth, clear findings and a plan built around you.
A new patient exam is the first step for everyone joining Harley Private Dental. It lets us understand your oral health, your medical history and any concerns you have, so the care we provide is safe, appropriate and personal to you.
Your exam is guided by:
✔ Your concerns, goals and expectations
✔ Your medical and dental history
✔ The health of your teeth, gums, bite and jaw
✔ Existing fillings, crowns and other restorations
✔ Early signs of disease, including oral cancer screening
A new patient exam is a comprehensive dental assessment that gives a clear picture of your oral health. It's the foundation for accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment planning and long-term care. We focus on understanding your needs, explaining our findings clearly and answering your questions before any treatment is considered.Composite bonding is a conservative cosmetic dental treatment used to enhance the shape, proportion, and balance of your teeth while preserving natural tooth structure. At Harley Private Dental, composite bonding is planned and delivered with precision, restraint, and a strong focus on long-term results.
✔ Every patient's oral health is different. The exam allows us to:
✔ Assess your current oral health and identify any concerns
✔ Review your medical and dental history
✔ Make sure any recommended treatment is appropriate and safe
✔ Create a personalised care plan tailored to you
This supports clarity, informed decisions and predictable outcomes, whether you're after routine care, a smile makeover, implants or straightening.
Many patients feel unsure before their first dental visit, especially if it has been a while since their last check-up. We take a calm, supportive approach and encourage you to ask questions at any point.

Our before and after images highlight the difference dental implants can make, restoring missing teeth with a fixed solution designed to look and feel natural. Every case is planned individually to achieve balanced, realistic outcomes.
Your new patient exam is a thorough, unhurried first appointment. Its purpose is to give your dentist a complete picture of your oral health, so every recommendation we make is safe, appropriate and based on what your mouth actually needs, not guesswork.
You won't be rushed, and you won't be sold treatment. We listen first, examine carefully, and explain what we find in plain language. Here's what each part of your exam involves.
A conversation about your concerns and goals. We start by asking what brings you in. You might have a specific worry, such as sensitivity, a broken tooth or bleeding gums. You might simply want a check-up, or be thinking about a smile makeover. Whatever your reason, this shapes everything that follows.
A review of your medical and dental history. Your general health, medications and past dental treatment all affect what's safe and suitable for you. Understanding them lets us plan care that works for you as a whole person, not just your teeth.
An examination of your teeth, gums, bite and jaw. Your dentist checks each tooth for decay and wear, assesses your gum health, and looks at how your teeth meet when you bite. They also check your jaw joints for any signs of strain. Spotting problems early often means simpler, less costly treatment.
Oral cancer screening. We check the soft tissues of your mouth, tongue and throat area for any unusual changes. Screening is part of every exam, and early detection plays an important role in improving outcomes.
An assessment of existing dental work. If you already have fillings, crowns, bridges or other restorations, we check how well they're holding up, so small issues can be dealt with before they become bigger ones.
X-rays or digital scans, if clinically required. We only take images when they're clinically necessary, and we'll explain why before we do. They let us see what can't be seen by eye, such as decay between teeth or beneath existing fillings, and the health of the bone supporting your teeth.
A clear explanation of your findings. Finally, your dentist talks you through what they've found, in straightforward terms, and answers your questions. If you need treatment, we'll outline your options, priorities and next steps. If you don't, we'll advise on routine care and how often to come back.
No treatment is carried out during your exam unless you need urgent care, and nothing happens without your understanding and agreement.

A new patient exam at Harley Private costs £69. This covers your full assessment and a clear explanation of your findings. Any treatment is priced separately and explained before it begins.
Your dentist discusses your concerns and goals, reviews your medical and dental history, and examines your teeth, gums, bite and jaw. They also carry out oral cancer screening, assess any existing restorations, and take x-rays or digital scans if clinically required. You then receive a clear explanation of what they've found.
It varies with your needs, but we allow enough time for a thorough assessment and discussion. An appointment of 30 mins is usually enough time for your dentist to perform a new patient exam.
