AirFlow stain removal for stubborn stains

A gentle, fresh-feeling clean that lifts away tea, coffee, red wine and smoking stains. Smoother, brighter-looking teeth, without scraping or discomfort — from £95.

A gentle, thorough clean for a brighter-looking smile

Planned around your teeth, your gums and your comfort.
AirFlow is more than a surface polish. Your appointment is guided by:
‍
✔ The type and amount of staining on your teeth
✔ The health of your gums
✔ Any sensitivity you experience
✔ Existing fillings, crowns, veneers or bonding
✔ Whether you're preparing for whitening, bonding or aligners

Your clinician assesses your teeth first and recommends the right approach, which may combine AirFlow with a scale and polish for the best result.

What is AirFlow stain removal?

Air polishing for stains and biofilm, with no scraping

‍
AirFlow, also called air polishing, uses a fine jet of air, water and gentle powder to lift stains and soft plaque deposits from your teeth. It reaches into grooves and between teeth where a standard polish can struggle, and it's designed to be kind to your enamel and gums.

Unlike a traditional scrape-and-polish, AirFlow is quick and comfortable, and many patients find it more pleasant, including those with sensitive teeth. It removes surface stains from food, drink and smoking, leaving your teeth feeling smooth, clean and fresh.

What causes stains on teeth?

Everyday habits leave their mark

‍
Surface stains build up over time from:

✔ Tea, coffee, red wine, smoking and vaping
✔ Dark sauces, berries and fizzy drinks
✔ Certain mouthwashes and medications
✔ Plaque and tartar build-up, which holds on to stains

Regular professional cleaning helps keep these under control. Some stains sit deeper inside the tooth or come from age and genetics, and these need whitening rather than polishing.

Frequently asked questions

These frequently asked questions are designed to give clear, honest information about AirFlow stain removal. If you have further questions, we can discuss them in detail at your appointment.

How much does AirFlow cost?

accordion dropdown icon

From £95. A scale and polish is from £75, and a hygiene appointment is £89. We'll confirm your fee before treatment.

Is AirFlow painful?

accordion dropdown icon

Most patients find it comfortable. It's a gentle treatment, and many find it more pleasant than a traditional scale and polish.

Will AirFlow whiten my teeth?

accordion dropdown icon

Not beyond removing surface stains. It can make teeth look brighter by lifting stains, but it doesn't change your natural shade. For that, you'd need whitening.

Is AirFlow safe for my enamel?

accordion dropdown icon

It's designed to be gentle, and the powder used is much softer than the abrasives used in older air polishing systems.

Is AirFlow good for sensitive teeth?

accordion dropdown icon

Often, yes, because it's gentler than scraping. Tell us about any sensitivity so we can adapt your treatment.

Will it remove tartar?

accordion dropdown icon

AirFlow mainly removes stains and soft deposits. Hardened tartar is usually removed first with a scale. Your clinician will use the right combination.

Is AirFlow the same as a scale and polish?

accordion dropdown icon

No. A scale and polish uses instruments to remove tartar and polish, whereas AirFlow uses a fine spray to lift stains and soft deposits. They're often combined.

Is AirFlow included in my practice plan?

Our cosmetic maintenance plan includes an AirFlow hygiene treatment. Other plans include hygiene appointments, and we can add AirFlow.
